Who are we?
Molinos was originally founded in 2016 in Manchester as a language service provider for translations from German into a number of other European languages by Managing Director, Michael Warr, after many years of working as a freelance translator alongside his teaching duties both in high schools and at The University of Liverpool. The company, like its founder, has since relocated to Tralee in Ireland where it continues to enjoy the benefits of being an EU-based enterprise.
What makes Molinos different?
Size - we are not the largest language service provider on the planet and unlike many of our competitors, we do not claim to be able to translate your document into every language under the sun. The linguists engaged by the company are largely, but not exclusively, based in Manchester. They are all degree-educated native speakers of their target language and in the vast majority of cases have been known to the management for many years.
We never revert to using unknown linguists found on internet portals with a view to making ourselves look bigger, but sacrificing on quality control as a result.
We also only take on assignments where we have proven expertise and experience. For example, although we handle pharmaceutical texts, we normally turn down medical-related orders. Where the subject matter is especially challenging or specialised, we are able to reply on our network of advisors (see The Team).
What do we do?
We handle a variety of types of documents our clients, from marketing website texts to commercial tenders and legal contracts. As well offering 'pure' translations, we are also often required to provide abstracts and copywriting services or proofreading services. The vast majority of our work involves translating from German into English or English into German.
How does this all work?
In the first instance, you can contact us via the contact form or at the telephone number below. As you'd expect, we will initially give you an idea of the best way to proceed and ask you to send the document/s in question for us to check. All of our translations are produced using industry-standard SDL Trados software. This is not automated translation software - all our work is completed by human beings - but it offers three major benefits to our clients:
Speed - the increased workflow and efficiency means that you get your translation much more quickly with no compromise on quality.
Consistency - once you have placed an order with us, we will create tailor-made a 'translation memory' and 'termbase' for you. This will ensure that all future translations follow the same style guide. We will be happy to explain this process in more detail. Clients are encouraged to contribute to this procedure but please note that these files usually remain the intellectual property of Molinos Media Ltd.
Appearance - except in the case of scanned PDFs, Trados is generally able to output files with exactly the same formatting as the original document - saving you and your design team a lot of work. Most of the files we receive are in Microsoft Word / Powerpoint or PDF format. We are, however, able to handle other formats such as html and IDML - also, image files can prove more challenging and these would always be discussed in the initial consultation. Mac or PC? Not an issue…
